How to perfect your wedding registry

I have been to quite a few weddings and I’ve noticed that a lot of people don’t register for nearly enough. I'm going to provide the master list of what Adam and I needed to register for, and tips we received from others - I suggest you take a look to make sure you're not missing anything!

There is no one size fits all when it comes to choosing where to have your registry and what items you want. It all depends on the couple and what you already have and what you will need as you transition into marriage.

Tip Number 1: Have multiple price points for your guests. This is one of the most popular answers and it's true you need to have different price points so that your guests will feel like they have options, BUT you only get married once so don't be afraid to ask for nicer things! The way I viewed my registry was this is our opportunity to get set up for LIFE. I wanted pieces that would last me a lifetime, so that's how I chose what I registered for. Think about it, you don't want to buy your own crockpot, or appliances down the road; and you DEFINITELY don't want to have to replace anything within the next 5-10 years! Who has the time or money for that?! So, even though we want to respect our guest's price points, don't be afraid to ask for what you really want.

For Adam and I, we didn't have much to start with. We needed pots and pans, plates, silverware, baking dishes, pitchers - you name it, we needed it! We tried to choose our registries at places that had classics, then some trendy pieces and of course functional items. That's why we chose , and for our registry! We used Williams Sonoma for all of our appliances, kitchen tools, bakeware, mixing bowls, etc. Anthropologie was for more fun things like our dishes, bedding, towels, serving dishes, glasses, etc. and Target was for random things that Anthro or Williams Sonoma didn't have! Williams Sonoma for sure had the largest amount of our registry and Anthro was a close second. One thing I will say about Anthro is that it's hard to make a registry so far in advance because lots of things discontinue quickly! So, if you decide to register at Anthro (which I highly recommend) just keep that in mind when you are choosing items!

Tip number 2: A lot of people don't register for china much anymore. So my advice is to register for multiple sets of dishes so that you have a couple to choose from and rotate out. I registered for two different sets at Anthro, and then I antique shopped for china! I would go to different antique stores and look for sets of china. It was a lot cheaper this way and I mix and match them for my table setting! ALSO, when you are registering for dishes and glassware, register for a minimum of 12! I know you're thinking I'm crazy because there is only 2 of you at the moment...but you want to be able to host your family and friends throughout your lifetime without having to worry about whether or not you have enough plates or glasses. Just trust me on this one.

Tip Number 3: Over register! You will probably hear this a lot but it is super important and let me tell you why. People are very particular about what they will buy off your registry. Everyone wants to buy you "what you reaaally want" or "what you reaaally need", but in reality you want and need all of it! So, lots of your guests will choose either the cutest things on your registry, or a medium priced item or bakeware and call it done. Something I thought was so interesting is that no one bought my silverware (the one thing I probably needed most haha). So, I did this exchanging game when I would get duplicates from my registry or something I didn't need as badly, and I would go return it and buy the things I really needed! If I ended up getting those things down the road from my registry, then I would return it and exchange it for something else. Does that make sense? It's important that you prioritize the things you need most to the things you want, because not everyone will buy you what you actually need! It's also key that you continue to add things to your registry as you start to get gifts! Your options start dwindling as you begin having showers, so your other guests are going to feel like they don't have enough to work with! Even if you feel like you couldn't possibly need anything else, do it anyway haha.
