Austin Travel Guide

I cannot believe I am just now thinking of this idea but I thought it would be fun to do a travel guide of my own city! Adam and I love Austin because there is always so much to do! With Spring and Summer right around the corner, it's about time to plan your next weekend trip to the good ole' ATX :)

To See/Do

State Capital - FREE admission

South Congress - super fun to walk up and down the street, they have a variety of shopping and so many fun restaurants and food trucks to eat at! Plus the view of the city is amazingggg from here. If you come in the summer, you can watch the bats under Congress Bridge!

UT Campus - football games and baseball games are my favorite events to go to!

Take a picture at "I Love You" Wall

Greenbelt - Super fun hiking trails and natural pools if it's a nice day out!

Mt. Bonnell - AMAZING views of Austin and Lady Bird Lake

360 Bridge - 100% Insta worthy pics here... gorgeous views of the bridge and Lady Bird Lake

Barton Springs Pool - once it gets a little warmer out this place is perfect to spend the day! Usually pretty crowded on the weekends.

Stand Up Paddle boarding or Kayaking- y'all this is soooo fun! I have done this multiple times and it is so cheap! It's like $15 a person on week days and $20 on the weekends for an hour - but they don't time you so really you could stretch it a little haha. I take friends and family here all the time and they always love it!

Town Lake Trail - The scenery is beautiful and there are so many people getting active and/or enjoying the views.

Rent a bike - This is such a cheap way to get around town without having to deal with the horrendous parking. Plus it's a great way to work off all the food you'll be eating in this foodie city ;)

Moody Theater - This venue is such a fun place to go to for concerts!

The Domain - great outdoor shopping mall with plenty of restaurants in case you get hungry while shopping!

Rainey Street - live music, bars and food!

North Lamar St - There are some good shops on this street! Have to keep your head on a swivel though for parking and which ones are worth stopping at.

To Eat

Breakfast

Snooze AM Eatery - you can't go wrong here! I love their pancakes, but they have really great savory options as well! I always bring people from out of town here.

Magnolia Cafe - Get the pancakes. Best thing on the menu. I always get the banana and pecan, but Adam always gets chocolate chip!

Taco Deli - an Austin classic. Their breakfast tacos are delicious!

Kerby Lane - open 24 hours.... dangerous. Every time I go I get a cinnamon roll pancake and share chips and queso with someone. Weird combo but definitely amazing none-the-less.

Hillside Farmacy - really cute spot with great brunch!

Biscuits and Groovy Food Truck - I'm telling you this truck is incredible. It only serves biscuits and gravy but they have a variety of ways you can have them (some have eggs and sausage on them, etc. ).

Lunch/Dinner

Food Heads- This is the cutest little place near UT's campus that has sandwiches and salads! It is an old house turned into a restaurant - soooo cute.

Italic - My FAVORITE Italian place in Austin! I may be partial though because I have a lot of memories at this particular restaurant - their happy hour is incredible and their pizzas are half off!

North Italia - Very good restaurant! This is a go to for Adam and I since we have one not too far from our house. The one downtown is soo cute and modern with fun outdoor seating available as well.

Culinary Dropout- We loveeee going here on the weekends! There is always a crowd here and they have cornhole in the enclosed patio to pass time. They almost always have live music playing on the weekends which makes for a fun atmosphere. Oh, and the food is delicious. Get the nachos or pretzel and fondu as an appetizer.

Velvet Taco - This place is a go to for my family. The tacos are amazing (I get the #2 every. single. time). Get the street corn!!

Torchy's - If you're not a native Texan and haven't heard of Torchy's you definitely should try it! Their queso is probably one of my favorite queso's of all time. Known for their street tacos!

Matt's El Rancho - I love to go here with a group usually because the atmosphere is really fun! My family also goes here on the 4th of July now for the last 2 years haha.

El Burro - Grilled Cheese Food Truck (the absolute best!)

Moonshine Grill - Y'all this place is a little nicer but it is gooooood. They have popcorn at the table rather than chips and it is the best. Their mac and cheese is to die for and so is everything else on the menu pretty much.

Hopdoddy - The best burgers! Get their truffle fries and if you're really feeling it get the queso with them! Plus their shakes are amazinggg. They have a fun atmosphere here and it's a great restaurant to have a cheat meal at haha.

Dessert

Hey Cupcake - You guys they serve cupcakes out of an airstream....like WHAT?! This Cupcake truck is so stinking cute and their cupcakes are even better (their icing is to die for). They have multiple locations in Austin - you have to go here! Every summer my family comes up to Austin for the 4th of July and we ALWAYS get a cupcake :)

Tiny Pies - Such a cute place, and the pies are soo good. I really loved the pecan, cherry, texas two step, and turtle flavors.

Gourdough's - These indulgent doughnuts are incredible. So many variations - you might want to share bc they are really big and heavy!

Bananarchy - This is such a fun, light dessert! It's a frozen banana on a spoon and you get to pick your dip (vanilla, chocolate or peanut butter) and choose different toppings to go on them.

Amy's Ice Cream - An austin classic. Not much to say except this hits the spot every time on a warm day.

Baked Bear - This is Adam's favorite place lately lol. It's a place where you make an ice cream sandwich and you choose the cookies/brownies/donuts that are the "sandwich" part! Such a fun date night dessert!

Have you ever been to ATX?! If so, what's your favorite thing to do/see/eat?
