2019 Word of the Year: Reflection

Every year for the last 5 years I've chosen a word as my "new years resolution" instead of goals I want to achieve! The influencer of it all is Jon Gordon - he even has a book all about choosing a word for the year and how it keeps you focused on one thing throughout the year and that we are more successful when we hone in on an all encompassing word, than we are saying we want to lose weight, eat healthy, and save money.

At the end of the year I always review and reflect how I did in focusing on my word what I accomplished because of it.

This year I chose the word IMPACT. I had just started my blog before 2019 and was going to be investing more time into it and the word "impact" came to my mind. I was praying about the year ahead of me and asked God what He wanted me to focus on in 2019 and "impact" kept popping into my thoughts. I wanted to make an impact not only in my blogging space, but in my work environment, in my marriage, in my relationships, and in God's Will for me.

In 2019 - I saw God move! I saw Him move in me, through me and around me. I prayed all year long that God would use me to make an impact for the Kingdom and I believe He's done just that - and He is just getting started! When you take little steps every day to move towards your goals and walk in line with God's path, He will bless your efforts and eventually you will see the fruits of your labor.

WHAT I ACCOMPLISHED IN 2019

Some notable things that happened in 2019: I ran a half marathon for the first time ever, our wedding was published in The Knot Texas Magazine, hit 10K on Instagram, had countless amounts of people give such positive feedback about the words I would speak on social media and the value I was providing them, I have met the sweetest people in Austin this year and hope to cultivate those relationships more as we move into 2020, I quit my job (read why ), and so much more. It's more than evident that God was present in 2019 and I have even bigger expectations for 2020.

WHAT I LEARNED IN 2019

I re-learned that success takes hard work. My whole life playing sports I knew that the effort you put into training, is what you will get out when it comes game time. As I have been working on building this platform and my blog, I realized that small consistent steps in doing the right things day in and day out are what make you successful. Growing this blog requires discipline, faith and perseverance!

I'm so thankful for you and that you continually choose to show up in this space and want to let you know that we transition into this new year - I have YOU in mind! I want to continue to show up for you, encourage you and inspire you to be the best version of yourself every single day.

As I pray about 2020 and reflect on 2019 - I am reminded that God works all things out for my good and can use even the most flawed and broken people (um, hello that's me) to shine the light of Christ.
