8 Steps to Simplify Your Life

Did you know that the first week of August is "Simplify Your Life Week"?! I thought it'd be fun to give y'all a few "simple" ways to simplify your life before back to school/fall season!

  1. Unsubscribe from emails (except for mine hehe) - those pesky emails you get every single day, multiple times a day that you always swipe to delete? UNSUBSCRIBE! Plus it might save you a little bit of money because you won't see all those retailers posting about their sales.

  2. Write your to-do list before bed - this allows you to get everything out of your head before you go to sleep, so that you don't have to wake up in the middle of the night worrying about what you need to do the next day! I do this every single day and I sleep like a baby hehe.

  3. Declutter your drawers - this is my favorite! Go through all the drawers in your apartment or house, and throw away anything you don't need i.e old receipts, expired coupons, pens with no ink (the worst), etc. If you have a lot of loose things, get an organizer from the container store, or target and put similar items in the containers. i.e pens, small pieces of paper, scissors, etc.

  4. Clean out your closet - summer is almost over, so all those tank tops shorts, and t-shirts you didn't wear this summer? You're probably never going to wear them, so put them in a pile and give them away! I have done this every season since Adam and I got married, and I always feel so much better when my closet is only filled with things I will truly wear. Plus it takes time to part with some things, ya know ;)

  5. Evaluate your savings - the year is a little over half way over, so check in on how you're doing with your savings. Depending on how you're doing, re-adjust your budget going forward and some of the things you need to change! Need some budgeting help? Read my best tips .

  6. Spend less time on social media - I read somewhere that the average person spends at least 2 hours a day on social media. That is NUTS! Put a limit on your phone, and when you hit that limit put your phone away. Go spend time with your friends and family, or get something done of your to-do list instead!

  7. Pre-plan your meals - every Sunday afternoon I choose all of the dinners I am going to make for the week and then I write down all the groceries I'll need for those specific meals, as well as other snacks and things we need. This helps you avoid over spending at the grocery store as well as making impulse buys of food you really don't need! It also will help you save money because you will ultimately eat out less when you know you have stuff to eat at home!

  8. Clean every week - okay I know this sounds like overkill, but hear me out. Every single week I try to make sure that there are certain things that get cleaned (countertops, sweeping, mopping, sinks, declutter, etc), and then every other week I'll do a larger task (wash the sheets/towels, toilets/bathrooms, vacuum, etc), and monthly I'll do the more tedious ones like dusting and wiping the window ledges (bleh). This makes it to where you don't have to spend hours and hours deep cleaning, because when you are continually doing smaller tasks every week it makes the deep clean a lot easier.

I hope these few actionable items were helpful to you and inspired you to simplify your life before we jump into a new season! Which ones are you going to work on, or what other tips do you have that you practice regularly?
