My Journey to a Toxin-Free Lifestyle

Over the past year, I have taken small steps towards a healthier lifestyle. Yes, of course I began with the basics of working out consistently, and shifted my eating habits to focus on eating for my overall health vs a fad diet. But I've taken it a step further than that by slowly but surely reducing the amount of toxins I surround myself with and consume. I have never really paid much attention to what products I used and what chemicals were in them, but when I began to do some research on what I was in the products I use daily, that's when the shift occurred! I'm not fully toxin free yet, but I AM making an effort to reduce the use of toxins and chemicals. If you would have told me at the beginning of 2020 that I was going to attempt a toxin-free lifestyle, I would have laughed at you! It's amazing what a difference a year makes.

Now let me preface this by saying, I am not striving to never ingest a toxin again, because I believe that's unrealistic. There are so many factors we cannot control, but there are also many that we can. I have a LONG way to go in this journey, and I may very well never reach the end of it, but I do want to take steps towards changing things that I use daily that have a negative impact on my overall health. My goal in this process is to not be restrictive, but rather make choices that are sustainable long term.

You may think that non-toxic means you only use essential oils, never take pharmaceutical medications and you make products at home, right after you throw out every toxic thing you own. Yes, there are some people who are that far along in their journey and choose to be as toxin free as possible, but that does not have to be what you choose to do and you can take things slow! I believe in balance. There are so many aspects to living a healthy lifestyle, and the great thing is you get to choose the things that matter the most to you.

What I'm Doing About It

With all that being said, I've taken a few small steps this year to help my body function efficiently and effectively, without breaking the bank. You don't have to throw out everything you own and start from scratch. The way I've been incorporating toxin free products is by replacing them when I need a refill. Take makeup for example. Eventually you'll need to refill your foundation, so before it gets empty, do a little bit of research and choose a brand that doesn't use toxic chemicals in their formula! Slow and steady wins the race.

A few things I've substituted so far are fluoride free toothpaste, changing my bedding to OEKO-TEX certified sheets, going to a holistic doctor, receiving nervous system centered chiropractic care, etc. The most recent step I've taken is using non-toxic cookware.

Why I Chose GreenPan

Did you know that the chemicals typically found in pots and pans (PFAS, PFOA, lead, etc) are linked to things like infertility, weight gain, impaired learning, neurodegenerative diseases and are possibly carcinogenic to humans? Not only that but these types of chemicals are found in 99% of Americans. That's right, IN you and it's so prevalent that they are even found in unborn babies.

When dealing with something that serious, I knew it was time to make a change to GreenPan, the original creator of toxin free ceramic non-stick cookware. They have perfected their technology since 2007 and own 150+ patents, meaning they know exactly what's in their product. They invented Thermolon technology, and instead of using plastic like traditional non-stick cookware, they use sand. Thermolon coating is made without PFAS, PFOA, lead and cadmium.

They not only have pots and pans, but also bakeware, cutlery, roasters, griddles, appliances and more! You can feel confident when cooking knowing that you, your family and your friends are eating the food just as you bought it, without any chemicals transferring.

What's the Catch?

You may be wondering, when using a pan with this type of technology something's gotta give right? Wrong. GreenPan provides an even heat distribution allowing you to sear and fry just as you would be able to on traditional non-stick, just without all the nasties. Their pots and pans are easy to use, easy to clean (even dishwasher safe) and stay beautiful over time! They even have care instructions on their to keep your pots and pans looking brand new after each use.

I have really enjoyed using their cookware and can attest to how easy it is to clean after using! Plus they make a statement in my kitchen! The peace of mind though is what really gets me. Knowing that I am taking an easy, yet impactful step towards giving my body what it needs daily, while avoiding the things it doesn't. Bye bye toxic chemicals, hello to improving our health!
